The most common side effects of aromatase inhibitors are joint stiffness or joint pain and menopausal symptoms. Keep in mind these side effects may also be caused by other conditions. Many women do not experience all symptoms, and in general, they can be successfully treated with over-the-counter medication. Please ask your doctor about what s/he recommends to manage these side effects:

Common side effects:

• Joint and muscle pain
• Loss of bone density
• Hot flashes and night sweats
• Vaginal dryness or itching
• Pain during sex

Less common or rare side effects:

• Carpal tunnel
• Hair thinning
• Heart problems
• Increased blood pressure
• Increased cholesterol
• Mood swings and depression
